Mother Sues Restaurant After Being Fired For Having a Baby
A former employee at Northside Bar and Grill in Bucktown claims she was picked on after falling pregnant and fired after giving birth.
Marzena Castillo, from Chicago Illinois, is now suing her former employer for discrimination.
When Castillo told her boss she was expecting, he allegedly picked on her and told her he was ‘disappointed’ in her, making her pregnancy a ‘nightmare’, reports the Daily Mail.
After giving birth she claims that she began getting mean comments about breastfeeding and was then asked to leave, after working at the restaurant since 2004.
Co-owner Cyril Landise said in a written statement: ‘We would never fire anyone because they were pregnant and we didn’t. We support women who have families and continue to do so.’
Statistics show that three quarters of women who enter the workforce fall pregnant, reports the Daily Mail.
