Republican Governor of Wisconsin Will Keep His Job
Wisconsin Republican Governor Scott Walker will keep his job after U.S. networks have projected him the winner in a race against Democrat Tom Barrett, and in a victory that comes as a blow for labor unions.
The Governor made U.S. history Tuesday, to survive a recall election that is considered a setback for labor unions.
The exit polls were not indicative of the outcome as they were weighted anti-Walker. Opinion polls leading up to the vote showed Walker holding a narrow lead, with a tight race as was expected, with 35% of those responding identifying themselves as Democrats, 33% saying they’re Republicans and 32% saying they’re independents, according to CNN.
Recalling a governor is not common, but in this instance, the stakes were higher.
The governor’s win could give Republicans a major boost in efforts to make the State a battleground state in the November presidential election.
