Struggling Houston Waiter Gets $5,000 Tip on $26 Bill

A very generous couple who found pity for their favorite waiter at D’Amico’s in Houston, Texas, recently dished out $5,000 on a $26 bill to help the struggling server.

Server Greg Rubar, 43, was finding his commute to work to be a bit of challenge after his Nissan was destroyed, beyond repair, during a recent bout of thunderstorms in the Houston area.

‘I wasn’t expecting this kind of money,’ Mr Rubar said to the MailOnline. ‘I was shocked.’

Rubar who has worked at the restaurant for 16 years said ‘I always talk to them. Rubar went on to say ‘I’ve known them for eight years and I guess they just felt like helping me out.’

The waiter had resorted to taking cabs and buses to commute to his job. On the day he received the $5,000, he was 30 minutes late.

‘They were waiting until I showed up to give it to me,’ he said.

The customer approached Rubar with an envelope when he arrived and said, ‘Go buy yourself a car.’

‘I thanked him once, but I really did need the help,’ Mr Rubar said, adding that he wants to thank them again, but they haven’t come into the restaurant. ‘I was struggling.’

‘When he gave me the envelope,’ Mr Rubar said, ‘he told me he wasn’t going to tip me for a while.’
