Starbucks Names Former Secretary of Defense Robert Gates as New Board Member
Starbucks Corp. announced Wednesday that former US Secretary of Defense Robert Gates has been named to its 11-member board reported the Wall Street Journal.
Gates served as defense secretary from 2006 until June 2011, working under both President George Bush and President Barack Obama administrations.
In a statement Wednesday, Gates said he was pleased to join Starbucks board and noted he has Starbucks to thank for “keeping me caffeinated through many long days and nights during my years in Washington,” reported the WSJ.
Starbucks Corp, based in Seattle, reported better-than-expected quarterly profit, however the company reported weak sales in Europe.
